The secret to a craft corner isn't the crafts — it's that every single thing has a home a four-year-old can reach without asking. Bins with labels they can see into, a cart that rolls to the table and rolls back, paper and paint at kid height. When cleanup is something they can actually do, it's something they sometimes actually do. That sentence is the entire philosophy of this room.

The two cheapest things here do the most work: the smock and the splat mat, because together they turn 'no, not the paints' into 'go on then' — and yes is where the good afternoons come from. I said no to the paints for years because of the carpet. The mat costs less than the carpet cleaner did. The wire on the wall is the gallery: work goes up the day it's made, and when the clothespins run out, somebody's oldest piece graduates to the recycling bin with honors.
